Dr Swati Shome received her undergraduate degree at Sophia College, Mumbai, during which she completed several credit units from Harvard University, USA, as well as did research at Max Plank Institute fur Strahlenchemie, Germany on a DAAD fellowship. She completed her Masters and PhD degrees at Yale University, USA and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA. She has 4 international publications.
During her formative years she studied in one of the premier elementary schools in USA, which exposed her to the benefits of the hands-on method of science education. But the lack of a similar science education in India always struck home. To gain experience she helped teach “Yes to Science” kids’ program for classes 4 and 5 in New York, USA during her PhD. She has returned to India in Nov 2004. Her current passion is in inspiring young children to learn science through "doing science". She has been conducting hands-on science programs at the Orchid School, Baner, Pune.
She has published a biography on Jagadish Chandra Bose that is meant for ages 8 and above. The name of the book is "Jagadish and the Talking Plant" by Tulika Publishers. She has been also developing content for NCERT.
